Male student in class

August 10, 2021

Dear Students,

We are writing to inform you that North Central College now expects all students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 14, 2021. This expectation also applies to faculty and staff.

The College is taking this additional measure based on updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), and due to rising COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations in our region and across the state, which are largely being driven by the highly contagious Delta variant.

COVID-19 vaccines are readily available, and have proven to be safe and remarkably effective in preventing serious COVID-19-related illness, hospitalization and death. Vaccines not only protect you, but by getting vaccinated you are protecting those around you, including immunocompromised individuals and other populations who are not yet eligible to get vaccinated.

  • To ensure that all students have access to a COVID-19 vaccine, the College is hosting an on-campus vaccine clinic on Monday and Tuesday, August 23-24, followed by a second clinic on Monday and Tuesday, September 13-14, for those who opt for a two-dose vaccine.
  • More information about the College’s vaccine expectation, including the process for submitting proof of vaccination by Tuesday, September 14, is available at

Scholarship Award

We are excited to announce that the College will award ten $2,000 scholarships to students who submit a completed vaccination record card by Tuesday, September 14. Vaccine verification will be required and all full-time degree seeking students are eligible.

Exemption Requests and Requirements

Exemptions to the College’s COVID-19 vaccine expectation will be considered on the basis of medical reasons, religious reasons, strongly held personal convictions, or for students in fully online graduate programs who don’t expect to come to campus for any reason or any length of time.

To request an exemption, fill out and submit the exemption request form by Tuesday, August 31.

By requesting an exemption, you must agree to: 1) Provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to returning to campus; and 2) Participate in the College’s COVID-19 ongoing surveillance testing program. Student-athletes and students participating in selected performing arts activities may be required to participate in more frequent testing.

Indoor Mask Guidance

As a follow up to the College’s indoor mask guidance that was communicated on July 30, additional details regarding where and when masks are required to be worn on campus is available at

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as the College navigates a global pandemic that is constantly evolving. As has been the charge and commitment of the IRT, we will continue to monitor the changing nature of the pandemic along with the latest guidance, and will update the College’s health and safety protocols as necessary.
