SHIELD testing

We are writing to share an important update regarding the College’s SHIELD Illinois saliva-based COVID-19 testing program. This is critical information for anyone currently participating in the College’s surveillance programs and faculty/staff members returning from travel. Do not delete this email.  

On Monday, May 10, SHIELD Illinois is upgrading to a new technology system that will offer enhanced features for patients. Using Point and Click (PnC) technology, patients will see an accurate listing of appointment times and receive notification of current testing results via text and email, with a link that directs them to their private patient portal to view results. As always, results are also shared with the Illinois Department of Public Health and North Central College as required. If needed, patients can also show their most recent negative PCR-based test results with any organization that may require it via the mobile-friendly website portal.  

Important: You will be required to create a new SHIELD Illinois portal account.  

In order to get tested, individuals must register via the website below using the URL and Agency Code provided to create a portal account. Please select “SIGN UP FOR AN ACCOUNT” and this will allow you to create a username and password (see attached instructions). Once a user submits their information, they will be sent a verification code to enter and confirm their identity. This verification code, which is texted and emailed to you, is only active for five minutes. Enrollment is very efficient, and takes about 2-3 minutes to complete. 

Employees – please use your North Central College email and permanent address to enroll.

If you have test information you would like to keep for your records in your previous MySHIELDIllinois portal, it is recommended to download the test results now. Access to these records will expire within a few weeks. 

Testing Location & Schedule 

During the summer, the College’s COVID-19 testing site will be located in the New Hall Multi-Purpose Room located at 451 S. Brainard Street. Summer testing site hours are available online at this link. 

Once you have set up your portal account and have been directed to test, you have the ability to select a time to test. This will create a QR code in your patient account. Please bring a screenshot/printout of that QR code to your appointment. Only North Central College’s site hours of operation will appear on this new scheduling tool, making it easier to set up a time to test. By scheduling your appointment, you are consenting to the release of your test results to North Central College for contact tracing purposes.
